An Endowment for Stillpoint

Last updated 12/1/2025.

In October of 2025, West Tisbury resident and financial planner Grant Joiner conceived the idea of launching an endowment for Stillpoint, and he is so excited about it that he is generously waiving his fee to manage it.

With donations from Grant, our board, staff, and individuals like you, the endowment has already grown to $10,712.

Now, when it comes to endowments on Martha’s Vineyard, we understand that ours pales in comparison with many others. We also understand that most nonprofit organizations have not yet set up endowments. So for us, it is one small step we can take to help ensure that Stillpoint continues, offering meaningful programs and connecting our community, for decades to come.

And if there’s one thing most people can agree on, it's that we want to leave the world a better place, for the grandkids.

Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to our endowment today. Donations of any amount are appreciated!

StillPoint Marthas Vineyard Endowment Investment Policy Statement (IPS)

Adopted by the Board of Directors on _________________________

1. Purpose

The purpose of this Investment Policy Statement (IPS) is to establish the investment objectives, guidelines, and monitoring procedures for the Stillpoint Martha’s Vineyard Endowment Fund (“the Fund”). The intent is to provide a long-term framework for managing and growing the Fund’s assets to support the organization’s mission in perpetuity.

2. Governance

The Stillpoint Martha’s Vineyard Board of Directors (the “Board”) has ultimate fiduciary responsibility for the Fund. The Board may delegate investment oversight to an Endowment Committee (“the Committee”), which will operate within the parameters of this IPS. The Board or Committee may amend this IPS at any time by majority vote.

3. Investment Objectives

The Fund seeks to:
- Achieve long-term growth of capital sufficient to preserve the purchasing power of the Fund after accounting for inflation, spending, and fees.
- Maintain a level of risk consistent with a long-term investment horizon and the Fund’s financial objectives.

Because the Fund will not distribute funds for the first three (3) years, all contributions during this period will be fully reinvested to build the Fund’s base.

4. Time Horizon

The Fund is managed with a long-term investment horizon (10+ years). Short-term market fluctuations are expected and will not, in themselves, dictate changes to the investment strategy.
